A versatile addition to the Maya team, Jose is a seasoned entertainment, real estate, and corporate attorney with his base in New York and Los Angeles. He began his tenor at Maya as General Counsel and Vice President of Acquisitions and was recently named President of the Company.

In corporate matters, Martinez advises on formation, financing, intellectual property, acquisitions, sales, real estate and acts as trial counsel. In entertainment related matters, he has represented writers, directors, producers and distributors in all facets of production, finance, acquisition and distribution of media products.

Jose is also co-founder and general manager of Arthouse Films, a joint venture with Chris Blackwell’s Palm Pictures. Under the Arthouse umbrella, he released 8-12 films theatrically and on DVD thereafter via Universal. Arthouse Films’ first theatrical release was Matthew Barney’s Cremaster Cycle in February 2003.
Jose co-founded the Santa Fe Film Festival in Santa Fe, New Mexico is a partner in the UK music label HUB RECORDS. He serves on the board of directors of Operation Y.E.S., a not for profit company helping at-risk youth in Boyle Heights, Los Angeles as well as the National Association of Latino Producers.

Martinez was born and raised in Los Angeles. He received a B.A. in political theory from UCLA and a J.D. from Hastings College of Law in San Francisco, CA.
